The Sydney International Open was first held in 2007, which was at that time dubbed the strongest chess tournament ever held in Australia. The SIO would once again make history with its return in 2025 garnering a large crowd, with many strong international players. It would make history, being the largest competition held in NSWCA history, having over 200 players across the three divisions. So once again, Sydney opens its doors and welcomes players from across the globe to the 2026 Sydney International Open!
